Choosing the Perfect Wedding Venue in Sri Lanka: Hotels, Halls & Beaches

Your venue sets the tone for the entire wedding — and it usually takes the largest share of the budget. Sri Lanka offers everything from grand five-star ballrooms to barefoot beach ceremonies and misty hill-country estates. Here is how to choose well.

The main venue types

• Hotel ballrooms — full service, air-conditioned, with in-house catering and a backup for rain. Ideal for large, formal weddings.
• Banquet halls — flexible and often more affordable, letting you bring your own caterer and decorator.
• Beach & garden venues — stunning for photos and sunset ceremonies, but plan for heat, wind and a wet-weather backup.
• Hill-country estates — cool climate and dramatic scenery around Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella for an intimate destination feel.

Questions to ask before you book

• What is the realistic capacity, seated, for my guest count?
• Is catering in-house or can I bring my own? What is the per-plate price and what does it include?
• What is the wet-weather plan for an outdoor ceremony?
• How many hours does the booking cover, and what are overtime charges?
• Is there parking, getting-ready space, and accommodation for out-of-town guests?
• What deposit is required and what is the cancellation policy?

Match the season to the setting

Sri Lanka has two monsoons. For a south or west coast beach wedding, the drier months are roughly December to March. For the east coast, the dry season runs around May to September. Always confirm with your venue and keep an indoor backup.
